The Scarf Girl
Her creased, royal blue scarf,
tumbling down to her waist,
falling like leaves off a tree.
Her snug grey jacket;
fabric bulging from the
top and bottom;
a great wave of cloth
erupting from the belt.
Her small white dog
offering a prissy sniff,
flashing its teeth with a smile,
knowing she’s full of charm.
Her vast, red leather bag,
a bottomless pit
stretching for miles,
weighing a thousand pounds
and full of everything imaginable.
Her slick snake skin heels,
clicking impatiently against
the cold concrete.
shining with malice
and snapping along the sidewalk
on their way to who-knows-where.
