TURTLES

I was sailing across the ocean
when I saw a baby turtle.
I don’t really like turtles, but
I loved this one. I loved George.
and George splashed freely
so angelic; he was so peaceful,
even with a big boat full of strangers
watching him play in the waves.
I wanted to pick George up and
take him back to America with me
but my mom said turtles aren’t allowed
on cruise ships, and they don’t hold
up well in suitcases.
