"There's no half-singing in the shower, you're either a rock star or an opera diva." ~~Josh Groban

Oh, how the stars shine
So brightly,
Lighting up your face.
We sing quietly into the night.
In the morning
Another light is greeting.
We squint as our eyes open again,
Ready to perceive
Another yet-unlived day.
My skin burns,
But yours does, too,
So it's alright.
We match.
You laugh as we climb the hill
To the old peach tree.
Memories, memories,
Come flooding back as we climb
The twisting, gnarled branches.
Come with me! you shout.
I am nervous,
But you are trusted.
You guide my arms,
My legs, my consciousness,
Up, up,
To where the leaves
No longer obstruct
Our view of our familiar sky.
Breezes taunt our
Nonexistent wings,
Starving us for something more.
Afternoon is spent in that tree.
But when our skin cools
As the sun retreats,
The stars return,
Yet we know it is not yet time
For a reunion.
We only know it is time
To retreat ourselves.
Once inside
A feeling of need
Overcomes me.
I glance to you,
And you...
Have the same desire
In your bright brown eyes.
The couch is comforting.
Warm, even,
And you fumble with the buttons
On my jacket.
My hands are cold
Against your warm skin,
But you do not slow.
I sigh as my blouse
Is taken from me.
Your t-shirt is wrinkled,
Forgotten on the floor beneath us.
Held in your arms,
I love you, you say.
There is no ulterior passion
To your touch,
But I crave it nonetheless,
As if there is one there,
And I am ravished by your caress.
You are staring, staring
Into my eyes,
The orbs of the deepest blue
That would not forget you
So long ago.
We have become one,
A single, bittersweet entity
That is us.
Powerful, but yet so weak,
and we wallow in the fact
That we will never
Grow tired of eachother,
Of eachother's company.
The warmth of my body
Surpasses yours in one moment,
But I have no strength left.
You smile, eyes twinkling
In the moonlight.
My own are closing, exhausted,
Only not before I feel
Your arms wrapping
Around me once more.
I am lifted into the air,
But I do not know where I am taken;
Slumber steals my mind away
Before we reach our destination.
I dream, tonight,
Of a peach tree,
Of the stars above this house,
And of the boy with the eyes
So brown and warm.

I was bored, I suppose....but it's from the heart. *smile* I hope people will recognize the humanity to it, how mundane it is---how easily it is to connect to this sort of experience.

Thank you! :) (I know exactly what you mean---I've read poems like that. Hard to explain.)

Wow, this is definitely one of the best poems I've seen on Teen Ink.  It's simple, yet extraordinary.  I know, I make no sense.  Anyway, great work!

As always, a good surprise.
