The Crystal Palace
Sharp and shimmering,
The shards of glass lay,
Fragmenting faint memories
Of that which once was.
With great care
And devotion,
They design
These small shapes
To create
A foundation.
Piece
Upon shining
Piece
They finally erect
Their vessel,
Their fortress.
His heart swells,
Her eyes glimmer,
As they proudly stare
At their gleaming visage of beauty—
At their Crystal Palace.
But, tearing their eyes
From looking glass’ reflection,
They find their dream
To be but an illusion,
A charade,
A sly trick of the mind.
For she has no glittering castle,
And he no sparkling fortress.
They have but
Shimmering,
Shattered,
Shards
Of glass.
