What Was Missing
I imagine myself
Standing
Standing
In the middle of the boardwalk
Surrounded
Surrounded
By the flashing lights
Tinkering of carnival rides
And swirling of cotton candy
The fluffs of pink clouds
Look so magical
Swirling, so delicately
Slowly, cumulating into
A puff of sweet,
Sugary delightment.
My thoughts were like the cotton candy.
Slowly swirling
In my head
Piling Up
Until I couldn’t take it
I flash forward
Faster and faster
Until I’m
Sitting
Sitting
In the middle of the cart of the Ferris Wheel
Surrounded
Surrounded
By the flashing lights
Tinkering of carnival rides
And the crowds of people
The pairs of people
Girlfriends, boyfriends
Best friends, enemies,
Moms, dads,
Kids.
I looked around at the people
Then at myself
And I realized what was missing
There was no one.
No one with me.
No one to talk to.
No one to hold my hand.
No one to tell all my problems to.
No one to comfort me when I was sad.
No one to share my life with.
And in that moment
On the slowly rotating Ferris Wheel,
I realized
I Realized what was missing.
