Shadowed
Hidden in the shadow, where no light can be seen
A dirty plate once full of knowledge is now empty and clean
All secrets have been locked up with a single golden key
Trust is the only thing that can set them free
If you were to ask me just why I’m keeping them locked away
I’m trying to protect you, that’s what I would say
I’m keeping you hidden, it’s the only thing other then pain
Over your head I hold an umbrella to keep you from the rain
The rainy clouds will shade you, they’ll keep you from the sun
There will be no hurtful knowledge from which you’ll have to run
Do you understand my dear, just what I’m trying to say?
Do you understand why I’m turning all color into a dullish gray?
These secrets that are locked up, are secrets I’m trying to hide
Secrets that I wish I could keep forever inside
You have yet to know them, but you will find out some day
But for now I’ll carefully avoid them, in everything I say
You cannot call it lying, for you have no proof
It’s not the whole I’m telling; it’s half of the truth
Now I’m doing you a favor when it comes to your heart
I’m trying ever so hard to keep it from falling apart
To protect you from the words I’m sure will only hurt
There’re earmuffs over your ears, to keep you from being alert
Why you ask again and again, why can’t you know it all
Because I reply, you’re not ready, you’ll slip and fall
So I’ll keep you hidden in a shadow so your heart can grow
I’ll keep you hidden in a shadow until you’re strong enough to know
