Chopping up the onions
And stirring through
The heating broth.
The radio plays
In the background,
The soothing tune
Encouraging the creamy liquid
To bubble and boil.

Chop, chop. More vegetables
Poured into the pot.
A slice of chicken,
A cube of seasoning.
The music turns up louder
And soon it is
Bubbling over.
