As the eagle was killed by the arrow winged with his own feather, so the hand of the world is wounded by its own skill. -Helen Keller

Run with me
And we can go for miles
Without a care in the world
Or a thought in our heads

Run with me
While we laugh
Or jump
Or skip
Or just embrace the freedom
Of a world that lets us accept ourselves

Run with me
For I need a partner
To accompany me on this journey
I cannot go alone but
I cannot stay...
Together we can flee the day

Run with me
Away from this acrid world
Of sickness and lust and terror
Destruction at its worst
In a land without a heart of its own

Run with me
If we start now
We may outrun the sparks
Flying at us
Scorching our heels
Leaving a sharp reminder
Of the fire we were escaping

Run with me
And that will be long forgotten
In the start of our own light
Where the clutches of turmoil and fear
Cannot touch us
As hard as it tries

Run with me
And we can go for miles
Without a care in the world

That world

Or a thought in our heads

Run with me
And together we can flee the day

The author's comments:
This piece is about two kids (of whichever gender you like) running away from a world gone horribly wrong. The deeper meaning depends on how you interpret the poem yourselves. As to what I hope you get from it, that's up to you. I would like to say that I do not believe in running away from your problems. My interpreting of the poem is something much different. What about you?
