I Remember
I remember when I was little
and scared of dreams I had
you’d come into my room and
let me cry, promising that
monsters weren’t real
You could always keep me safe
I remember trips to the store,
back when oatmeal was funny
and kitty pools were full of spaghetti,
I had to run just to keep up with you
giggling the entire time
You could always make me laugh
I remember when you let me
help make pancakes
or peanut butter eggs
or cinnamon rolls even though
I was probably just in the way
You always made me feel important
I remember our car rides,
I would talk about the silliest
things-Junie B. Jones or
Polly pockets- ans even though
you couldn’t have cared, you listened
You would always listen
Soon, as sad as it is, I’ll
be off to college and starting
my life. But that’s okay because
I know if I’m scared you’ll keep me safe
I can call whenever I need to laugh
You always have a job for me to do
You’ll listen even though you might not care
But more importantly, you will always love me.
