Overpowered
Defenseless,
 She huddles
 Beneath
 An oak tree

 Intimidated,
 By its towering presence
 Dwarfed,
 By its power

 She cannot see

 Past its tangled branches,
 To the possibilities
 That lay
A few steps beyond her reach

 Nor can she hear

 The directions to get there
 Through the whistling
 Of the merciless
 Wind

 But she can touch
 A hand guiding her
 Over the scraggly roots

 And she can feel
 a hand catching her
 When she stumbles

 And in this way
 She can step past
 The towering oak,
 Into possibilities
 She never thought possible
