First Snow
It smells like a mountain up here
 Silver sparking snow
 Shivering and shuddering and slicing
 Ice crack
 Crick, crack, SNAP
 Fog forms fatally
 Drifting down
 Rising swiftly
 And nips my nose
 Teasing, touching, trying to tickle
 My cheeks rosy
 My ears bright red
 Beneath my black beanie
 Crunching snow like peanuts
 Like pecans? Like pistachios?
 Boots, thick, black boots
Groaning softly in protest as I step
 More crunching, more cracking
With a smell like frozen rain
 Cool, clear, clean
 Like crystallized tears
