Ode to Butterflies
The cocoon
 Slowly
 Breaks
 Freeing
 The butterfly.
 Perplexed
 By the world,
 It flies
 Away
 Searching,
 Begging
 To understand,
 To comprehend
 The world it entered.
 It leaves the world
 Of darkness
 Becoming
 A member
 In the world
 Of endless light.
 Its wings flutter
 Rhythmically
 As the sun
 Reflects
 A rainbow
 Of colors.
 Feasting on nectar
It flutters from flower to flower
 Devouring the nectar
 Like a child
 With dessert.
 The prairie
 Is a stage.
 The butterfly
 A confident performer.
 It prances
 Like a dancer
 Ready for show time
 From the peach of dawn
 To the grape of night
 It flutters.
 Whoosh.
 It travels
 With the wind.
 Endlessly.
