A Thorn and a Black Rose Bud
Oh victim of other's dark sins
In the softest whisper you weep
Close your tired eyes, a new day begins
Give it time, the sun shall rise as you sleep
Before you write another somber rhyme
Watch the new day come in a crimson sunrise
Give it time, oh wait for the dawn of new time
Let light fall upon your restful face, open your eyes
The sun has yet to fall from grace
Do not let those drops of ink
Rain like tears down your face
Don't let them make your spirits sink
When they painfully cascade,
Those evil sinning tears,
Leaving ink stains that will not fade
Wiped away again and again all these years
You stand in the moonlight's beam
Only the moon, not the sun, makes you
A stark silhouette with tears unseen
That pour not in light but dark in lieu
With each knife-edged word you write
Cuts a gash that pours not blood
But that gushes night
A thorn, and a black rose bud
