&quot;All that we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream.&quot;<br /> &quot;Just because her eyes don&#039;t tear doesn&#039;t mean her heart doesn&#039;t cry. And just because she comes off strong, doesn&#039;t mean there&#039;s nothing wrong.&quot;

I am May.
The weather is warm now,
With the last bit of rain falling.
The wall will be able to dry again,
From the rain flooding my eyes.

I am May.
The feelings are coming back,
With a heaviness I haven’t felt in a long while.
The pain will be gone soon though,
From the song that I sing.

I am May.
The year is ending for me,
With one last wave in the sun.
The start of it all will be soon and I will be freed,
From the heat and shame I harbor inside.

I am May.
The weight of it all seems to be getting to me,
With the burden of world on my shoulders.
The somber laughter helps me,
From the destruction building in my heart.

I am May.
I see the creek up ahead.
I am May.
The stone glistens in the moonlight above.
I am May.
I take one step closer to what my destiny may be.
I am May.
The hurt has become too much for me.
I am May.
I can see their faces in the reflection of the water.
I am May.
The cowardness inside me has come to fruition.
I am May.
I don’t want to lie beneath the surface of the water.
I am May.
The destiny ahead of me is not my own.
I am May.
I cannot breathe, but I can see it now.
I am May.
The leaves are crushed beneath my tender souls.
I am May.
I hear the rush of the water behind me.
I am May.
I refuse to look back.
I am May.
I refuse to give up and rot somewhere.
I am May.
I refuse to be alone for the rest of my time here.
I am May.
I refuse to let this shape my destiny.

I am not May.

The author's comments:
I thank Sue Monk Kidd for writing "The Secret Life of Bees". It taught me a lot of things, mainly things about myself. I thought about May when I began to write this. I used her and the month of May. I thank May for being who she was and teaching me who I need to be. Oh May. Sweet, sweet May.
