saturday mornings
watching the television, paused on that show again
the sappy cartoon sings and canned-laughs like an old friend
and i once again am fresh woken on a saturday morning for that weekly sacrament
an hour on the sofa, not quite as worn as it is now
wrapped in the warmth of a familiar blanket
smelling of my mother's good night kiss and innocent slumber
and tooth fairy visits and monsters under the bed
when i could sing this jazzy theme song by heart
but then again, i still can
a decade later, not quite an adult but not yet a kid
