If Only For a Little While

It’s when you feel safe
When you believe that nothing could possibly go wrong
That’s when you get hurt
And that’s why it stings
Because you hate yourself
For putting your guard down
Except if you had kept it up
You wouldn’t have let him in
And you would have sabotaged it all
You couldn’t have felt that love
That acceptance
The complete and utter wholeness
Of being his other half
If only for a little while
If life is only about experience
I’m glad you were one of mine
