Captain
Don't go, please don't go
Don't leave me here among these awful people
Don't leave me lying to get by
Since you're the only reason I ever belonged here
Are you really going to push me off your bus
Set me on the curb
And make the world weep
Turning gray
Gray
The color between black and white
The color that has no meaning
No feeling tied to it
You are really going to make me suffer
Because of your mistakes
Because of your decisions
Because of your sinister words and doings
I thought you cared enough
To stay
To protect me
I thought you were strong enough to ignore the others
Tough enough to take the lashes they whipped at you
Because of me
Does it even matter
That once, long ago, when we were younger
And the situation was reversed
I stayed
I wept away your tears, took your hurt, and piled it onto my own troubles
I could have left you standing
At the edge of the cliff
But I showed you how to climb all the way up
To where the path lay
So that you could stroll down
Unharmed
Maybe that's when you left me
Maybe you never cared
I am sorry for wishing for you to take some of my pain
And for giving you my words
Words
That I was never told
Are you really leaving me on a sinking ship?
I thought a captain stayed until the end, until all the crew was safe
Are you really leaving me
Behind everything in the world?
Yes.
You are leaving.
