Regular Miracles
I spend money on the regular miracles
just like everybody else
I want to be a breadwinner
I want to write about something worth while
something my senator would read
I want to be productive
So I write little notes
on my hand
but then I wake up
with black ink smeared
on my face
It makes me look hungover
Productive people
are never hungover
I have a books worth of
professional jokes
burned to memory
they're not that funny
but I've prepared
for those moments
where I stand in the break room
of my boring desk job
exchanging witty banter
with my coworkers
over black coffee
I never wear makeup
anymore
so its hard to be
the mature vixen
black pencil skirt
with the expensive stilettos
ankles crossed
just so
sipping ice water
poised and relaxed
at a little french bistro
waiting for an old friend
who's just in town
for the week
