The Flower and the Sun
She was beautiful, quiet;
 he was arrogant, controlling,
 and she let him burn the daisies
 that once grew around her neck.

 He was good, honest;
 she was shallow, selfish,
 and he wanted to be the sun
 not realizing flowers needed shelter.

 She craved the energy of the light;
 he demanded the beauty of the petals,
 so she tried growing roots deeper
 but without water she fried.

 If only he had been quiet;
 and she had been honest.
 Goodness could have shined,
 but an eclipse from love was his fortune.
