Grandfather clock
On the couch, I sat,
 and ticked away time.
I looked at the tall, wide Grandfather-Clock,
waiting for that knock, but it never came.
 I checked my makeup,
 sprayed my hair,
 smiled in the mirror,
 and pictured you saying
 those sweet words,
like I would stay to you.
 I tugged on my shirt,
 pulled up my jeans,
 messed with my nails,
maybe you would ring the bell?..
But I heard no such thing.
 I listened out for
 your footsteps
 walking up the worn out
 porch stairs,
but all I heard was the laughter
 of the neighborhood children
and the cars zooming past my place,
As the sun started to fall,
 so did my stomach,
I never even got a call..
I cried on that couch, but only for a moment,
I dried my eyes, and looked at
 the tall wide grandfather clock,
 waiting for that knock,
 but it never came.
