The Meadow
The meadow, seems peaceful and calm
a river sparkling in the shining sun
runs through the middle, slow and tranquil
a doe and her fawn prancing gracefully.
Welcoming animals into their home
eating, chewing the green grass and bright red flowers
animals scattered, resembling life and pleasure
like adornments on the meadow
images of peace and happiness
But the meadow holds secrets:
The river seemingly calm
churns and swirls like rapids
through the middle, fast and riotous
the doe and her fawn are wolves in disguise
waiting for careless animals to walk into the trap
feeding, gnawing on the animals
carcasses strewn, resembling death and pain
like scars on the meadow
reminders of the violence and sadness.
