He swore upon every dazzling star that Hell
Could not keep them
Apart,
While his fingers were crossed and she
Was double-crossed,
Togetherness a thing only imagined, for her,
And means to an end,
For him—
An end that left her used and trembling
In the coldness of what must have been
Hell frozen over
In the corners of a dark, dank, dreadful, devilish
Heart of the one she
Loved.

I love the usage of "crossed" and "double-crossed;" it's just so witty of you. But then, you're always witty in your writing, and this was no exception. BRAVOOOO!
