Perfection
I want to scream
The pressure pounding at my skull,
Trying to break free
Trying to break me
It's me
And I must be perfect
All the right notes
In all the right clothes
My hair shiny,
My nails perfected
How dare you?
This is not me
I can' t be perfect
Don't try and change me!
This hurts like nothing else
And I break the cage
I scream
I cry
I break my nails
I pull my hair back
I rip my clothing
I am free
Wrong notes
Wrong song
Save me?
I saved myself
No thanks to you
And it felt amazing
But here they come,
Forcing me back inside
Fixing my hair
Giving me new clothes
Repainting my nails
Giving me more music,
With notes printed in
And once again,
The pressure pounds
As tears track down my face
Leaving cold, wet trails
Of salty water
On porcelain skin
Perfect once again
