City Haunting
Crowded streets and chilly air,
I dreamed that I might see you.
Or perhaps I hoped.
Though distance counted miles apart,
the heart never felt so near.
I swore I heard your voice
and saw your sister at dinner.
Your favorite chocolate caught my eye,
but I knew better than to buy it.
Because the stars knew their place
as did I
in that city of shining lights.
I couldn't compare,
though I wanted to believe
I would come out alive.
As soon as the fast lifestyle slowed its pace,
I had never felt so alone.
