Kite in the Thermals
People say that kites are free,
but they are wrong.
We are chained to the earth by a single strand.
Everything about that strand taunts you.
Even the seemingly insignificant size of the chain laughs at you.
That titanium thread leers at you, mimicking the faces of the amused humans.
Those earth-bound creatures go so far as to decorate that string with little bows.
Its as if they are saying 'Look! Look how close you are!' Before they yank you back and laugh as you swing and twirl back and forth, struggling to win back the sky they stole away from you.
And when they get bored, they leave you fluttering in the thermals.
Left with no hope of ever slipping from their meaty hands.
And when they put you away in that dark closet, all you can dream of is that limbo, that place of in-betweenness that you so hated when you were stuck there.
