Strength

Pain leaks from his skin
Yet he smiles
He struggles to keep himself up and standing with a cane
But he keeps me up and going everyday
His old skin is wrinkled and stiff
Yet his eyes are filled with the purest beauty

There are so many points in my day
I forget how brave you are
I always grew up with you being my horse to jump and play on
The one to toss me over your shoulder and squeeze my cheeks
Whenever I was around you

And then the pain started to become unbearable
I watched with my own eyes
The strongest grandfather to walk the earth
Slowly fade

We take life for granted so much
We go through our days
So quick to judge, and complain about the next thing
We forget to look next to us
And notice the people that have it such a great deal worse
Yet keep smiles plastered on there faces throughout the day.

You are my biggest reminder
To look for all the beauty in life
And soak it up as quickly as I can
Because you never know when your precious senses
Could be taken away from you

No one will ever understand
The great deal of pain you go through
Because you never seem to complain about anything
But I see it in your quivering eyes sometimes
And in your tightly gripped hand on the kitchen counter
When you’re making your morning coffee

I know you don’t want to be treated any different then the man you were
Throwing kids over your shoulder
Wrestling with my big brothers
But I just want to remind you
Your braveness is my inspiration
The wrinkled smile you show from time to time and
Your rough, jerky hugs,
Is sometimes the only thing that gets me through the day

I would be nothing without you
