oblivion
i am running-
 running-
 running-
 from the fog.

 i was never told
 a reason,

 but i am certain
that if the fog touches my skin
 if it infiltrates my lungs,
if it beats me in this
 eternal race-
i will fall to my knees.
 my world will crumble like
 paper thrown into a fire.

I know this just as well
as I know that i am
 able to fly
 if I keep running-
 my feet will cease to
 touch the ground.

 run-
 run-
 run-
until my legs give out from under me
 until I can’t run
 another step.

 and watch, as the
 fog touches my skin
 as it infiltrates my lungs,
as it beats me in this
 eternal race-

as i fall to my knees.

 the fog is taking me
 in it’s silky arms
 hissing into my ears
 it is enveloping me.

 i am stumbling, now.
 i cannot-
 i cannot-
 can
 not.

 nothing.
