Every man is born as many men, and dies as a single one. -Martin Heidegger

It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see. -Henry David Thoreau

I chanced upon a fallen bird
With newly broken wings
I brought it home, took its pain,
Taught it how to sing.

Convinced to tackle greater feats,
I sought a broken girl
Whose apprehensive loneliness
Had commandeered her world.

As ready as I'd ever been
I peered into her heart
Then stumbled on the cracks I found
For it was cold and dark.

She forced me out and turned away,
'Twas "no concern of mine"
Her words said "let me go,"
But tears in her hazel eyes did shine

Confused and at a loss for words
I bowed my head to pray.
Lord, give me strength and courage
Bless me with wisdom; what to say?

In answer to my plea descended
An angel among the stars
His halo chipped and crooked,
Golden wings laced with scars.

His voice rang out clear and true
"Don't try to mend her. Start with you."

I hear his words, know he is right,
Wonder why she fell apart...
But instead of pondering her plight,
I'll return to her with an open heart.

I close my eyes, envision her face
And know that I was wrong;
She was never a broken bird to fix,
But an angel with a song.

Sometimes people are more beautiful once they're broken.

Arise and be all that you dream - Flyleaf

You did a beautiful job writing this poem. I love the message that is portrayed. The line "Don't try to mend her. Start with you." is probably my favorite. Most often we try to fix other people because we see them as broken. In reality though, we are just as broken and in need of help as they are. The only one who can truly save us is the One who made us. Well done! 5/5
