ignis
winter cut a hole in the sun, and i
was what poured out, scalding and
flaming against the bitter, frozen air
i burned until the snow melted me
into nothing but a wisp of breath
& i hoped that i would find a spark
i am a smoke trail, i am an ember
waiting for the welcome warmth
of another fallen piece of a star
the unknown seemed so far away
until i was rolling through it alone,
setting my words on fire for light
yet winter cut a hole in the sun, &
when i fell i landed, blinded, dizzy;
and yet now i find that i am neither.
