Young Fires
Each ear yonder here and there ought have heard
The tale of Juliet and Romeo.
And each ear who hears shall think it absurd
That love shall break us, cause much gore and woe.
But love, kindled fire, when young and when bold,
Never before envisioned, imagined
Leaps upon two children just beginning
To sprout, to grow, to bloom and to blossom,
Tis often rash and unafraid, sudden,
Like a gust of wind comes and is banished,
For children dream to be invincible
And this burning, biting, swelt’ring love does
Naught, naught to daunt the dauntless eternal.
So the passion, mixed like the potions of
Youth and being reckless and free from fear,
Burns bright and strong and virginlike, in the
Way of heartache and heartbreak and tears shed
Over loves lost, for in their state of youth,
How can love be lost, and how can two hearts
Crack and break, crumble like bread when broken?
How can love cause anguish? Love should not hurt.
Too caught up in fires, burnt for each other
To remember that when fire burns brightest,
Tis because oxygen is burning and
That when the oxygen is gone and vacant,
The fire is gone, too, and all that is left
Are ashes and embers, scorching and hot,
Too beautiful to forget, but also
Too dangerous to touch, for it will burn,
But I suppose, we youth must learn sometime:
Even the most beautiful things can burn.
