To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.

Oblivious to life, to love, to fear,
Her tiny, wet, fingers curled tight
Gurgles and giggles, a transient tear
The world is my child’s knight

Her cheeks are lit with a rosy glow
As she marvels at an iridescent bubble
The beauty in flowers, of grass, snow
Catch her eye, spark her sudden giggle

Her wide eyed wonder, her ceaseless Why’s
Continue; the universe amazes her
Arms aloft, she runs, she dreams, she flies
And dreams of a happy ever after

Then why, baby, do frowns now crease your forehead
As we once more turn the page?
It’s as though the gleam in your eyes is dead.
Has innocence finally lost to age?

"innocence" if only we could have it back. I loved it. You have a good rhyming scheme and creative word usage. The only part you should maybe change was in the first line. You said "oblivious...to love" kind of made me pause and be like, wait, the baby doesn't love anyone? but other than that i loved it

The poem contains sparkling innocence with childhood- usually beautified because those who are around children know how adorable and infuriating they can be, yet truthful at the same time. The last few lines gave the poem a darker twist with the passage of time, which was a really nice touch. Great poem overall- loved it.

Isaac Asimov - "Intelligence is an accident of evolution, and not necessarily an advantage.”

First of all, sorry this took a long time, its that time of year where everyone is busy at school finishing off courses and coursework.
I can see why you related this to "What I Am No More" as we both tackled very similar themes. You have a big impact on reader, especially with that last line, leaving them to think about it afterwards and more often, as well as relating it to themselves. You also capture the innocence and lack of knowledge very well, as well as the imaginative side of childhood which is hinted at with "she flies" etc. You paint a clear picture in the readers mind of innocence, portraying it beautifully, before you ask where it all went. It was powerful. Good Work :)

The imagery in this poem really allows one to undertand it better, great job! The last stanze really wraps it all together, as you surprise readers with a scary, yet true shift of voice. Love this!

Thank you, that means so much to me! Wow, I actually didn't notice that the lines in the second stanza didn't rhyme. Thanks for pointing it out. :)

I really really loved this. That last line was perfect. I wasn't sure how I felt about the lines in the second stanza not rhyming only because it was an inconsistency with structure, however I think that's just a personal preference. But I really just adore thus. The whole last verse was AMAZING

I liked this poem a lot, but didn't LOVE it until the last line, which, Kaavya, was brilliant. "Has innocence finally lost to age? That is the question."
