"When life gives you lemons, make orange juice and leave the world wondering how you did it."

You said you'd be right back
I watched you walk to your car-
Who knew those were the last words
I'd hear you say for quite so long?
At practice you'd been kind
Which was strange, at least for that night.
You knew the perfect words to say
To get us to toss the rifle just right.
You taught us how to play the part
Of strong flag-spinning girls.
You never made us wear strange dresses
Or wear our hair in curls
Which I know we all appreciated-
We're not drill team, you know-
I didn't know the nightmare was true
As I stood and watched you go.
It wasn't until the Monday after
That I realized what was wrong.
You weren't at school, the rumor mill
Was whizzing fast and strong.
The team you trusted turned on you
The whirlwind confusion was rife.
One girl's loose lips was all
It took to effectively ruin your life.
Three weeks of pain and still we wait
For you to come back and set us straight-
"It's need-to-know. Don't speak of it."
Don't they know shushing won't fix the remains?
From 31 to 18 and less by the day,
Your confident guard girls are falling apart.
No one will tell us where you've been or where you are.
Swapping makeshift answers like trading cards.
Then she came to try and save the day-
We thought she was cool over summer break,
But now that she's trying to take your place
We want her to just go away.
We limp on, through endless competitions we go,
She's always out saying we're the worst she's had.
We need you back to help the cause,
Because right now all we're feeling is mad.
Won't you come back to save us someday?
To see the freshmen take the stage?
Come back to see us fighting on?
See that maybe we can still stay strong?
I hope you're okay, wherever you are,
We all hope that you're still alright.
For now just know as you head home,
your guard is still putting up a fight.
