Running is
meditation in motion,
it is the cure for a crowded mind
and an outlet for worry.
One step at a time,
propelling forward mile after mile, lap after lap,
consistent as a metronome’s tick.
Running is life itself,
a death and rebirth in one.
I use my legs like long wings
that barely keep up with the engine of my heart,
and the drive of my soul.

I feel most alive
when my heart is working overtime,
when my legs are shaking and I’m gasping for breath;
the air’s oxygen isn’t enough
to fuel my power, my vitality, my joy.
Still I push on, leaving behind
reality and sanity
I let the wild freedom push me
farther and farther.
I’ll rest once I’m dead.
