Grandpa
As a little girl
I heard stories about the wars
 Stories about my grandpa
And how my freedom was born

I heard how he bravely fought
For his nation and family back home
How he gave his own life
So that we could keep our own

I grew up with those stories
And what they mean to me
Is more than any photo or locket
 I keep those memories

Grandpa, now I look up at the sky
 Hoping to see your face
I want you to see I’m doing the same now
 Keeping our family safe

 I’m following in your path
And I’m hoping you’ll be proud
I know I’ll make it back home
Because my courage rings true and loud
