Loneliness
Like a horse has its rider,
And the moon has the sky,
A man has his loneliness,
Despite the crowds that pass him by,
Cold eyes hidden by his hat,
Hard bone within his fist,
Loneliness lives within him,
Despite distant love's rare kiss,
Face set hard as metal,
Heart now lined with steel,
He chases all his crazy dreams,
Hoping his loneliness might heal,
Laughter's temporary smile,
Always falls so short,
It treats him then it turns its back,
And leaves him with a snort,
When the laughter leaves him,
And he's left back in the dirt,
He's forced to dust himself off again,
And wear his skin-deep smirk,
He rises to his feet,
Despite the past's pull down,
His pain his matchless,
But he makes not a sound.
