I hate that people define races as racist.
People think that because I am white,
I am rich, prestigious, and find minorities complacent.

I hate that people act a certain way
Because it is expected of their gender.
People think that because I am a female,
I will be weak and surrender.

I hate that people place expectations based on age.
People think that because I am 15,
I am lazy and I find twerking all the rage.

I hate that people assume someone’s knowledge level,
Because of their hair-color.
People think that because I am blonde,
I have never read Shakespeare, and won’t know the answer.

I hate that people define religion as a personality.
People think that because I am a Christian,
I spend all day praying on my knees.

And to all the people out there
Who are making these assumptions,
When you hear my story,
You’ll learn to use some more caution.

I am white and not rich, shallow, or conceited;
I am a female, but will never be defeated;
I am 15 and I have never twerked, not once;
I am blonde, but I don’t look to Calvin Klein for guidance;
And I am a Christian, but I still study science.

So for anyone who decides to hear this,
Know your expectations put you in an ignorant bliss.
For I could be black, male, 16, and Muslim
And still be middle class, sensitive, intelligent, and opposed to terrorism.
