Not Guaranteed
I close my eyes-
I dread the day that you must leave
The day that you must march over the
hilltop
And your return is not guaranteed
I can feel your heart beat quickening
Your blood rushing to your head
Don’t be afraid of losing me
Because I will always be in your heart,
That’s what you once said
So as we watch the sun retire from the sky,
The signal that you must go
You whisper in my ear that nothing can ever
kill our forever love,
But this I already know
I don’t let you see
But I somehow let a tear escape from within me
It trickles down my cheek
You’re marching over that hilltop
And with every step away from me,
My heart dissolves into nothing
Because your return is not guaranteed.
