night split
today i broke like a flickering light;
i felt the energy drain from the tips of my fingers and splatter on the concrete.
when i saw you look my way with disdain emitting from your eyes,
i gave you my last sputter of luminosity, and collapsed.
i became the lyrics in the sad songs,
the faraway look in your eyes when you think of that one movie.
you kissed me with angry lips,
and i saw the way you glanced over your shoulder
to make sure no one saw.
all i could remember was that day we laid on your bed,
staring at the ceiling as if it were the raphael rooms.
you slid your pinky into mine, and swore to love me until lightning isn't followed by thunder.
i stayed home today to compensate for the security your arms provided.
even the clouds looked anxious
just as they do before a hurricane.
in fact, i swear i just witnessed the most fulgarant flash.
it was followed by silence.
