My pants feel so stiff in the dark,
when the lint roller is the only object
which fluoresces brightly enough
to hold on to, without the rising sun.

It glows like the neon words on my
shirt did, that time we played laser tag.
Do you still remember how
I wore white sneakers
and they gleamed bright like
your ridiculous smile did
when I beat you?

You never were a sore loser,
because I had already taken up
that role, and I’d always make
you feel terrible for winning.
But you were a natural;
no matter how much
you cared, you couldn’t
stop yourself from radiating.

You basked in the spotlight’s
affection, and when it came
time to chose, you made
your choice easily.
