They'll Make It

One man lies in a bed made for two.
Pillows that once shared the load of hope and fear find respite.
Floorboards worn by years of family now bear a lighter load,
their backs scratched with the movement of life, sometimes too deeply.
One day disease the next day death.
His dreams now sit with his sons, sewn into the seams of their character.
Maybe one day he’ll move into another blank canvas,
but until then the scratches, and the cold mattress remind him of all he lost, and everything he still has.
