Bottomless Dream
Falling in the dark,
Like a downward shooting star,
Never to be seen again,
Flailing about like a wounded deer in a field,
Scared and unaware of my whereabouts,
Flinching at every shadow,
No voice to call for help,
But I’m not alone,
There are others here,
They are different,
They have wings and fangs,
Long dark claws that tear at my flesh,
It hurts but I can’t scream,
There is no air,
But I am alive,
I am awake,
My body is frozen,
I have no longer a pulse,
My skin though has full color,
I’m sweating and waiting,
The bottom has to be near,
It has to…
- I wake suddenly in bed gasping for air, covered in sleet and snow, wiping the sweat from my forehead, and wondering where exactly I am, though realizing I am still asleep as the world flies upward and I fall yet again into a bottomless dream.
