On Drowning
The cold concrete swallows me
I can feel the shallow pool beckoning
"Deeper! Deeper!" It calls
I'm not listening, however
Because I am being swallowed
the waves are covering me and burying me beneath the ashy sand
The concrete is taking me whole
And I find comfort in this reality
As my arms begin to dig their way from this mess
"Don't!"
My legs are entangled, trapped, and mangled
And I'm searching for my last breath
My lungs are chasing their last hope
To live and see another day
My heart is pumping fast, my veins are not pumping
And my blood is growing cold
My beautiful mane of hair now stolen by the rock
I can not find a pretty place, oh please, do not mock
I'm drowning, I'm drowning, my body underground
The peaceful waves of the ocean, can you hear no sound?
I'm trapped, my eyes the only thing above ground
Seeing, wondering, if you'll walk all over me again
And put me deeper in the ground
