I used to get ready for dance every day –
Dress myself, fix my hair into a bun, and pack a water bottle.
Then I would go to the studio and run up the stairs,
So very eager to put on my dance shoes.

When the music started, I flew across the dance floor;
Pirouettes, and piques, pliés, and penches.
My body swam with the flow of the music,
Just like fish glide through the waves of the sea.

And then in the blink of an eye, everything changed…
Four wheels took the place of my two legs.
Felling trapped, with no escape, my dreams fade away.
How could I go on from here?

I was lost and confused, with four walls keeping me captive;
My thoughts were focused only on what I could once do.
Then In the darkness, I discovered a ladder of hope.              I I told myself that I must fight, and live my life to the fullest.

I climb the ladder every day, hoping and praying to heal someday.
It shines brightly and leads the way out of the darkness and into the light.
I’m not at the top of the ladder yet, and I won’t be for a while;
But when I do reach the top someday, I will dance.
