Someone

tried to throw

a water bottle away.

We can give them

the benefit

of the doubt

and assume they simply forgot

water bottles don't compost that way,

leaning against a fence,

filling

slowly

with rain.

The author's comments:

I was working on a Creative Writing homework assignment to write something about my surroundings.

Thank you very much, Crow. It is a rather weird subject, but that just made it more fun to write (^u^)

Thank you again, Lolo. My topics are rather random, I'm afraid...

Waterbottles was a really interesting and unique topic. I liked how you separated your lines with space. Good job!

Thank you for your critique. I'm not sure if they really were trying to throw it away, to be honest... But like I said, benefit of the doubt.

Whoa. I never thought something as mundane as this could possibly be the topic for a poem, but you've clearly proven me wrong. That line "we can give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they simply forgot water bottles don't compost that way" seems very sad, almost pitiful; it really contributes to the mood of the poem. However, I feel as if that first line contradicts with the meaning of the poem, that the water bottle wasn't thrown away properly ("Someone tried to throw a water bottle away"). Either way, I really loved it. I can tell I'll be thinking about this poem for awhile :)
