People can say they're alright
They can say they're okay
But some of the most genuine people speak these lies anyway.
I do not condone these
But I do not condemn them either
For I know myself that these replies can seem easier.
Wearing a mask
And dressing in costume
Is far less effort than letting the world see the real you.
But painting a face
And making yourself look pretty
Never allows you to truly be free.
It's when you live for others
That you lose yourself
And become a person you know nothing about.
Living up to this face
Day in and day out
Till hiding away becomes nothing from the norm.
And when days turn to years
You begin to forget
The person who ever was before the skit.
Smiling despite the tears
That flow beneath it all
In order to match this character of fiction.
Insecurities with no end
All suppressed by fear
This is how monsters are made of men.

Living in gowns
Teaches you to disregard reality
This is the way monsters come from the kindest of souls.

The author's comments:

No one is born evil, no one starts out as monsters. Its through time and pain that people are molded into these things. What's sad is that even the monsterish of men once were innocent beings just like the rest.
