The American Dream
I thank God for life
I was born
November 18th
1900
In the inconspicuous
Yet riveting village of
Calwood
Callaway County, Missouri
“Crossroads of the world”
Mamma says:
“Boy,
You was lucky
To be born in 1900
That was the year I waited and waited for”
When I was born
Calwood homed
Fifty people
So I
Increased the population
By 2 percent
So far as I know
No one person
Has done such for
A town
Not even George Washington
But I
Did it for
Calwood, Missouri
And I thank God for that chance
I thank God for
The American dream
