These Eyes
I search deep in these empty eyes,
In attempts to bear the shrouded soul,
But the longer I stare through the veil,
The further I begin to lose control.
These eyes, a reflection of my own,
So empty and shattered and broken,
Clouded and grey from years of pain,
And countless secrets left unspoken.
They are mine and mine are theirs –
A pair of eyes, drowned in regret;
And though I try to mask the anguish,
It’s a sight I simply can’t forget.
The most tragic thing about these eyes,
Is the pained longing they hold to be free;
In my life, I’ve seen many eyes like these,
Yet, never thought they’d belong to me.
