Crutch
I have a crutch,
Not of metal,
But of flesh and bone,
And fiery eyes,
You are my crutch,
As much as I wish,
That I could cast you aside,
That I could let you go,
I need you,
To catch me,
To support me,
To lean on,
As much as I wish,
That I could grow out of you,
You’re needed,
Here,
If not by all,
By me.
As far as the perks go,
For having a crutch,
The weight of knowing,
I can’t go on without your help,
Your assistance,
Is hardly bearable,
Pressuring me down,
With painful problems,
And terrifying truths,
Forcing me to rely on my crutch,
More than ever,
Along with the knowledge,
That I’m too weak to live without you,
But strong enough to only need you.
One day I hope to have you,
Not need you,
Just to keep you with me,
For the days when I need support the most,
Not all the time,
To have the comfort,
That you're there for me,
When I desperately have to rely on you,
To catch me,
To support me,
To lean on,
To have the knowledge,
That I don’t NEED you around,
But that I WANT you around,
That future may just be wishful thinking,
An impossibility,
An unachievable alternate universe,
But I have enough strength,
To hope for the best,
To stumble and fall,
Knowing you’ll always be mine,
But for now,
I have a crutch,
Not of metal,
But of flesh and bone,
And fiery eyes.

This is a piece about having to rely on someone, and the pain it can be. If not as drastic and dramatis as entrusting someone with your life, then we've all had a time when we had to count on someone to pull their weight, like in a group project. This shows the struggle in putting your grade, your job, or even your life, on the line.
