Expression:A Two-Voice Slam Poem
Hello, Bonjour, Buenos dias, G’day, Guten tag, Konnichiwa, Ciao, Shalom, Dobrey dyen, Ne Xao, Namaste, Hujambo!
Hola me llamo Natalia, tengo catorce anos, y mis antepasados son de mejico.
Hello I am Natalia, I am forteen, and my ancestors are from Mexico.
Hey! I’m Hannah. I am thirteen, and I’m from all the white countries.
Hello I am Hannah, I am thirteen, and my ancestors are from… all the white countries.
Although we may not understand each other when we speak, we understand one language.
Art.
Every person is abstract.
Drama.
Seeing yourself in the character, and trying on their shoes.
Dance.
Traveling the world in a single step.
Music.
Different sounds expressing the same emotions.
Heart.
Diversity is not a problem!
Equality is not an answer!
Love is a solution!
Understanding is a treasure!
True equality is my nightmare.
All of us born from the same mother.
Painting one person’s ideals.
Seeing one side of the story.
Walking the path millions of others have taken.
Hearing without listening.
Feeling one feeling.
Maybe it is good that perfection is unrealistic.
Maybe it is good that we all have different pairs of shoes.
Maybe it is good to be a mixing pot.
A pot full of friends.
A pot full of hope.
A pot full of feeling!
No matter where you go,
Who you encounter,
Or what you discover,
Humans are the greatest things.
And humans are different.
But we express one thing,
In a language we all understand.
Feeling.
