Where I'm From
I'm from my family believing in making your bed after every night,
from eating together at the dinner table.
I’m from being on schedule, but still having time to watch a basketball game,
from biking and eating sweet ice cream during the time when the simmering sun is shining.
I’m from eating beef and carrot soup on a winter night,
from playing in the fresh new snow that falls during the winter.
I’m from waiting for Christmas morning to arrive.
I’m from camping trips to Devils Lake,
from going with my dad, mom, and sisters.
I’m from spending days swimming in the glittering, clear, and reflective lake,
from climbing the hard rocks is like running up to the peak of the sky.
I’m from playing kickball and soccer during school recess,
from running sweaty and never ending 5k’s in cross country.
I’m from cutting the grass and shoveling snow.
I’m from hours of sitting on the porch watching the coffee colored birds drink and eat,
from digging holes North of the house to plant dirt smelling coneflowers.
I’m from Hartland, Wisconsin,
from home.
